The Piece
This is a Pendleton "High Grade Western Wear" board shirt from the navy label era — which puts it squarely in the late 1970s to early 1980s. The shadow plaid fades from burnt rust through slate blue and into warm tan, like a desert sunset filtered through woodsmoke. Two flap pockets up top, western-style back yoke with a chevron point, and the kind of weight that tells you this was made for actual weather.
Details
Pure virgin wool, made in USA, tagged size Large. The "High Grade Western Wear" secondary label is a detail you only find on the western-cut Pendletons from this era — it's a collector's tell. Dark brown buttons throughout. The shadow plaid pattern creates an ombre effect that shifts tone depending on the light. Box pleat at the back for movement.
Condition
Very good vintage condition for its age. Minor softening at the cuffs consistent with a well-worn-in wool. No holes, no moth damage, no stains. All buttons present and original. The wool has developed a worn-in hand over the decades — broken in without being broken down.
