Army green, the real shade — AG-44, the wool the Army wore from Vietnam through the Reagan years. This is a full Class A set: the four-pocket service coat with its gold US-eagle buttons still bright, and the matching trousers that hung beneath it on the same hanger in some footlocker for forty years. The NSN stock numbers are stamped right into the labels — 8405-965-1621 on the coat, 8405-067-4925 on the trousers — the serial-number fingerprint of government issue. Somebody stood at attention in this. It remembers how.
